Austin, Texas – James Davison, Martin Fuentes and Sloan Urry paced Pirelli World Challenge GT, GTA and GT Cup practice, respectively, at the Nissan Grand Prix of Texas brought to you by VP Racing Fuels.
Opening the session with a fast lap of 2:06.541, Michael Cooper, in the No. 8 Cadillac Racing Cadillac ATS-V.R., went straight to the top of the time sheets in GT. In GTA, it was Fuentes, driving the No. 07 Scuderia Corsa Hublot Underarmour Ferrari 458 Italia at 2:07.411 and in GT Cup it was Udell, in the No. 17 GMG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at 2:14.056.
Fifteen minutes through the 60-minute session, Cooper had lowered his fast time to 2:06.445 to lead Davison, in the No. 33 AE Replay XD Nissan GT Academy Nissan GTR GT3, who was second quick and in third it was Patrick Long, in the No. 31 EFFORT Racing Porsche GT3. Fourth fast belonged to defending GT Champion Johnny O’Connell, in the No. 3 Cadillac Racing ATS-V.R.
Fuentes had also lowered his GTA fast lap to 2:07.239 over Michael Schein, in the No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche GT3-R. Michael Mills slotted into third on the charts, driving the No. 46 Mills Racing BMW Z4.
In GT Cup, Urry, in the No. 22 TruSpeed Autosport Security National Mortgage/Avasis Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, set the fastest lap in class at 2:13.715 and then going faster with a lap at 2:11.383. Udell, in the No. 17 GMG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, was second quick in the session for GT Cup.
With 10 minutes to go, Davison took his Nissan to first on the time sheets with a fast lap of 2:05.712, ahead of Cooper, with Andrew Davis, in the No. 76 Calvert Dynamics/Phoenix Performance Porsche 911 GT3-R, setting a time for third fastest overall ahead of Andrew Palmer, in the No. 87 Bentley Team Absolute Bentley Continental GT3.
While Davison’s time of 2:05.712 held up for fastest of the session, Cooper improved to second at 2:06.002 for second place by the checkered flag ahead of Bryan Heitkotter, in the No. 05 AE Replay XD Nissan GT Academy Always Evolving/Replay XD/Nissan Nismo GT3 GT-R (2:06.246). O’Connell was fourth fastest (2:06.373) with Davis (2:06.764) completing the top five in GT.
