Star Mazda: Autobahn (Chicago)Sunday Report

(2009.07/26) "It was a great days for David" reported AIM AUtosport Star Mazda team manager Keith Willis. "David did not let the disappointment of falling out of Saturday's race affect his drive today and he was rewarded with a solid result."

David Ostella would start today's race on the outside of row seven (13th) but quickly moved up and through some tight battles, gained positions to end the race in eighth place. It wasn't easy though and right after making the pass for eighth spot (at a place where the TV announcers said "Nobody passes there"), the seventh place car spun right in front of David. He had to brake hard and go to the grass to avoid an accident and this allowed the car he had just passed, to take back the position. However David would remain in eighth spot.

Jorge Goncalvez started the race from the outside of row five (10th) but his woes continued and a cracked rear wing bent back causing severe handing problems for the No 71 car. He would finish the day in fifteenth but remains in the top ten in the series championship.

David Ostella is still in twelfth spot in the championship but has widened the gap over the car behind and is now within striking distance of a top ten overall.

AIM Autosport remains third overall in the team championship.

Star Mazda: Autobahn (Chicago) Saturday Report

(2009.07.25) After a a disappointing day that saw David Ostella (71) suffered a broken differential gear on the start of the race and Jorge Goncalvez spin into the barriers on lap twelve, both drivers bounced back in this evening's qualifying run for tomorrow's race.

David and Jorge both bettered their previous qualifying attempts in the morning session and will start race two of the double-header at Autobahn from the 10th (Jorge) and 13th (David) spots on the grid.

David's early exit from the race was very disappointing as he has made a marked improvement over the last few races and earned his first series podium (3rd) in the last event at Iowa Speedway where he also had a strong qualifying run.

Jorge was doing well making up spots early falling back after an early spin and he was on pace until he went off course late in the race. With all the rain overnight, the grassy sections were very slick and Jorge slid into the Armco damaging the left rear of the No. 72 Aim Autosport entry.

Race two is scheduled for 1:00 p.m CT (2:00 p.m. ET) Sunday, 26th. The race will be broadcast live on HDNet. Check local listings and your service provider for availability.
